Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

I wanted to tell you about another novel with a great movie adaptation.

I actually saw the movie before I read the book. They follow each other quite well and it is such a touching story.

A story of a young girl who’s father sold her to a geisha house. Desperate to return home she ruins her chances to become a geisha and is forced to be a maid instead. One day she is approached by a woman who wants to train her again. It is tragic, adventurous, intriguing, and romantic.

I love the culture in the book. The MC had a lot of obstacles to overcome, and is living a life that is different than any I ever read about. I don’t know much about Japanese culture, and I’m not sure how accurate it is. But I really enjoyed this read.
