Rumpelstiltskin by K.M. Shea

I love this romantic fairy tale retelling. I have read it several times and it never gets old.

Gemma is a skilled seamstress whose father gets her in to big trouble by running his mouth in the pub and saying that she can spin straw into gold. You see where this is going. The greedy king hears of this and decides it must be true, and if not he’s going to murder the family. Gemma does all she can to make sure that she can escape the king. On the night she is to spin a mage pops in and declares that he will complete the task for her.

Many adventures follow and the mage falls in love with Gemma, who knows that fairy tales aren’t meant for her no matter what the handsome mage may say.

This book is humorous and contains a grumpy donkey. I love Gemma and Still’s relationship, and how they both work well together. Gemma is very humble and cautious which prohibits their relationship from progressing too quickly, but at least someone is realistic.

This is a fairy tale retelling series. I have read the beauty and the beast one, which is also excellent.

QOTD: Do you like classic tales retold with a twist? Do you have and recommendations?
