The Host by Stephenie Meyer

This YA Sci-Fi has a movie adaptation.

I read this book before the movie came out, and while it is a little on the long side. It was well worth the read. The movie does stick well with the book and wasn’t a disappointment.

Wanderer is an alien that has lived many lives in many worlds. She has seen an experienced a lot, but has never found that true home. When her species take over earth, they use the humans as hosts. They take over and control the human body. She is placed in a host who is hostile and doesn’t want her there. The more she learns about the humans, through her host Melanie, the more she wants to learn about humans. Melanie leads them to where humans live in hiding from her kind. She falls in love with the humans and her host, which leads to self reflection and a vow to help them fight against her own kind.

I love that Wanda wants to experience authentic human relationships, and is open to new experiences. She is wise because she has lived so many different lives. I like that despite the fact that she is another species she empathizes with the humans and realizes that her peoples way of life are hurting the humans.
