You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose

I was sooo excited to get approved for a netgalley ARC read for this one. It is a book that I had preordered and feel thrilled to have been selected to read it early. I will mention that the ARC kindle copy had some formatting issues that I hope they fix before publication.

It was really good. At first it plays out like en eerie romance book, then slowly turns thriller. It gives us just enough to keep us knowing that the book is a thriller, then ramps up to WTH is going on.

Grace likes to vacation in obscure places. Every year she throws a dart at a map and vacations there. This year her destination is Wyoming. She rents a room at a ranch in the country. Where she meets the handsome owner Calvin. They both bond with each other and have a hard time fighting the attraction between them. When the local Sheriff comes by to ask about a woman that was supposed to room at the ranch, but never showed up, Grace is wondering just who Calvin really is.

We start to really like the MCs. They both say enough suspicious things to get us to know that neither of them are who we think they are. Calvin is a lonely man living on his family ranch, and seems to long for a romantic partner to spend life with at the ranch. But he tells a whole lot of “white” lies that he gets caught for. He also has a terrible friend and family dynamic. Grace is on vacation from her city life, and likes to enjoy new things, but only for a little while. The whole time Grace is there, so many things go wrong. Calvin wants her to decide to stay with him, but Grace is just too good at reading people and she knows there are truths that he is hiding.

I don’t want to say more for fear of spoiling this amazing thriller for you.
